The MX531/420 AIS Shipborne
Class A Transponder System consists of MX531 AIS Transponder
and MX420 Navigation System Control & Display Unit.
The MX531-AIS Transponder is handling the VHF data
communication between the vessel to other vessels and
to shore stations. There is a built-in GPS-receiver
in the MX531-AIS Transponder for synchronizing the VHF
communication.
AIS is mandated by IMO and included in SOLAS Chapter
V. From 2002 and onwards, ships above 300 gross ton
will carry AIS transponders.
